Parangtritis located 27 km from the capital of Yogyakarta Province. It is easily accessible by public transportation that operates until 5pm. You can also reach there by private vehicles. Sunset is the best time to visit the most popular beach in Yogyakarta. But if you arrive quickly , you may also go up to the cliffs of Gembirawati. From there we could see the whole area of Parangtritis.
Not many know that on the east of the cliff there is hidden temple . Unlike the other temples that located in mountainous areas , theTemple of Gembirawati just a few hundred meters from the lip of Parangtritis . To reach this temple , we can pass the ramp near the QueenHotel and into the path westward about 100 meters . The faint roar of the ferocious ocean waves can be heard from the south of the temple .
Parangtritis is commonly related with the legend of Ratu Kidul . Many people believe that Parangtritis is the gateway of magical kingdom of Ratu Kidul that ruled the Hindian Sea . Queen of the South Hotel is a luxury resort which was named after this legend . Unfortunately the resort is now open but rarely used, we don't know why.
